Windows 10 and 11 have an auto-gain control option that will track the volume and automatically adjust it so that you do not need to worry about it. However, by taking control away from you, this will sometimes give undesirable results, in which case it should be disabled as follows:
Open Windows 10 Control Panel.
Choose Hardware and Sound.
Click on Sound and switch to the Recording tab.
Right-click on Microphone and select Properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab and untick the Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device option.
